Wide sand of Les Deveses beach in Dénia, four people walking along the shoreline and a stone breakwater behind them under a clear sky

Costa Blanca

Who teaches and rents in Dénia, Xàbia, Moraira and Torrevieja, which towns have no base at all, what an hour costs, and how the Spanish bathing zone rules shape every start

Last updated:

Most of the boards sit between Dénia and Calp

The eFoil on the Costa Blanca is a Dénia story first of all. The town has two operators: one is a kite school, the other a mobile service that brings its kit to your beach or accommodation. Further down the coast Moraira has a fixed base on Cala El Portet, and Torrevieja, at the far southern end, has another inside its harbor bay. Calp, Altea, Benidorm and Alicante lie in between, with long beaches and, as far as a search in October 2026 could establish, no eFoil school of their own. Valencia has no base either.

Our eFoil in Spain overview gives this coast one section among a dozen regions. Below we take it a town at a time, from the beaches where a board can start to the price lists we read in October 2026 and the bathing zone rules that decide where you may ride.

Fixed bases

Dénia, Moraira, Torrevieja

Shortest session

€69 for 30 min

First hour

€119 to €150

License

None by day within 2 nautical miles

Beginner, family, villa guest or trained rider

A first-timer who wants a fixed place to turn up has two good options, judging by what the operators publish. Ocean Flyers in Torrevieja teaches one-to-one for 45 minutes, and eFoil Moraira gives 15 minutes of instruction before an hour on the water. For a taster on a tight budget, Kite45º in Dénia sells 30 private minutes for €69 and Oliva Surf, in the province of Valencia, asks €65 (list prices read in October 2026).

Couples and small groups get prices of their own. eFoil Moraira quotes bookings for two and for three, Kite45º runs semi-private lessons, and E-Foil Costa Blanca charges €80 each when two share a course. Spanish law sets the age at 18, or 16 with signed parental consent. It says nothing about a minor in a lesson led by an instructor, so ask the school before you book a child.

Staying in a villa between Dénia and Calp? Let the mobile service come to you. Riders who already fly can hire from Kite45º, Ocean Flyers or E-Foil Costa Blanca. In Benidorm, Altea, Calp and Alicante there is no fixed base, which leaves a mobile booking or a drive.

eFoil in Dénia: a kite school and a service on wheels

Over 20 km of coastline belong to Dénia, long and sandy to the north around Les Marines, rocky in the coves of Les Rotes to the south. Marineta Cassiana, the first beach south of the port, lies over posidonia seagrass.

Kite45º, on Calle Riu Vinalopo 1A, is a kitesurf and wing foil school that also teaches eFoil, kitefoil and paddle surf. Its eFoil side trades as eFoilSpain. Kite45º itself runs every class and rental, takes bookings through kite45.com and gives you the meeting point once you have booked. Helmet and impact vest are included, and you must be able to swim. Before each session the school checks the water, and it reschedules when sea or weather are unsuitable. Bring swimwear, a towel and sun cream.

E-Foil Costa Blanca, also based in Dénia, has no beach of its own. It brings the kit to Dénia, Jávea/Xàbia, Calpe, Altea, Benidorm and El Campello, most often somewhere between Dénia and Calp. The exact place is confirmed at booking, and a standard session runs 60 to 90 minutes.

The wind mostly stays below 4 Beaufort and blows mainly from the west and southwest, which at Dénia means offshore. The reserve decree, taken at its word, closes the inner waters of the marine reserve along Les Rotes to eFoils. Came for wing foiling? Our wingfoil guide covers the sport.

Jávea/Xàbia: three calm spots and a channel start

The learning spots in Xàbia come from the mobile operator in Dénia. E-Foil Costa Blanca names three places here with calm water and no strong currents: the beach of El Arenal, the cove of Granadella and Cala Portitxol, also called La Barraca. Bookings go through WhatsApp.

El Arenal sits right in the center of the bay. At 480 m it is the only sandy beach in Jávea, with coarse sand and clean, shallow water that suits children.

Xàbia buoys the bathing zones of its beaches and coves and marks access channels through them. Expect all three spots to be buoyed in season, then, so you leave through a channel at no more than three knots. Granadella lies beyond Cabo de la Nao, and going by the district boundaries it belongs to the Altea maritime district, not Dénia's. Siesta Advisor, a kayak company in Xàbia, also lists an eFoil experience.

Moraira, the one fixed beach base in the north

eFoil Moraira is based on Cala El Portet and starts most of its sessions from that beach. It teaches, rents and sells, and is an authorized dealer for both Flite and SiFly. Its site is in English. The cove belongs to Teulada: 300 m long, 10 m wide, mostly sand with some pebbles, semi-urban, with full services and lifeguards in summer, under the Cap d'Or headland. Expect to share it with swimmers in July and August.

Prices are per booking, read in October 2026. One person pays €150 for 15 minutes of instruction and an hour on the water. Two pay €250 together and get two boards. Three pay €300 for two eFoils and an electric paddleboard, with the same 15-minute briefing and an hour and a half on the water. Board, safety gear, helmets and, when the water is colder, wetsuits are included.

Las Antípodas, a sailing school in nearby Benissa, also lists eFoil courses on its website.

Calpe and Altea, served from elsewhere

Calpe (Calp)

Calp has a town beach on each side of the Peñón de Ifach. Arenal-Bol is 1.2 km of fine sand and clear, calm water; La Fossa runs more than a kilometer through town, with tranquil water. No operator names either beach. Both behave like busy bathing beaches where you start through a channel, and Calp's harbor is off limits for riding.

E-Foil Costa Blanca brings boards here from Dénia. Board Club, a Flite partner, names Calp, Altea and Benidorm as its eFoil area and sells a 60-minute Flite experience for €150 with helmet and impact vest (read in October 2026). Its page says nothing about where that hour takes place, so ask before you pay.

Altea

La Roda, in the heart of Altea, is a mix of pebbles, gravel and sand. The water is generally calm but deepens quickly. Cap Blanc is a pebbly cove near the sailing club. The Altea maritime district runs from Punta del Albir to Cabo de la Nao.

Big beaches in Benidorm and Alicante, yet no base

Benidorm

Levante beach runs for over 2 km of fine golden sand and is known for calm water. No eFoil operator is based in Benidorm itself. Board Club and E-Foil Costa Blanca both list the town, so ask either one where you would meet. Levante is buoyed in season, like every bathing beach of its size, which means channel starts only.

Alicante

Postiguet, the city beach at the foot of Mount Benacantil and Santa Bárbara Castle, is about 650 m long, usually calm and shallow. Alicante city had, in October 2026, no eFoil school with a fixed base of its own. The Dénia mobile service lists El Campello, just up the coast. The closest fixed base is Ocean Flyers in Torrevieja.

Read booking sites carefully. Blue Valley Watersports at Playa de San Juan rents the Lampuga, an electric board without a foil, to groups of more than three, at €70 for 20 minutes or €80 for 30 minutes per person (read in October 2026). With no foil under it, the board stays on the surface.

Flat water behind the Torrevieja harbor walls

Playa del Acequión lies inside the bay of Torrevieja harbor. It is 800 m long, has no waves, and shares the bay with three marinas. The name comes from the channel that links the salt lagoon with the sea, and it is not presented as a swimming beach. Ocean Flyers works from here as a Flite partner school, open all year, with lessons, rentals and guided rides. The operator calls its water between the harbor walls protected, calm and wave-free. Wind here rarely reaches 4 Beaufort.

A one-to-one beginner lesson costs €90 for 45 minutes, the next level runs 1 hour 5 minutes for €120, and a Fliteboard rents for €100 an hour after a skill assessment (list prices read in October 2026). Coaching comes through an in-ear radio. Riding inside port enclosures and marinas is banned, and here the school handles the start. Like eFoil Moraira, it runs an English-language site.

Swim in Valencia, ride at Oliva

Valencia city had no eFoil school or rental of its own in October 2026, though wing foil is taught there. Malva-rosa (1,000 m) and Cabanyal (1,200 m) lie to the north, and Pinedo, L'Arbre del Gos and El Saler run south inside the Albufera Natural Park. Buoyed nautical channels cross the beach at Malvarrosa, Cabanyal, Pinedo and Perellonet, and lifeguards work from June to mid September.

Valencia's beach ordinance (approved 30 April 2010, amended 31 March 2016) lets the city set launch zones in art. 46.3, and motor or sail craft must use them. Riding in the Marina de València or the commercial port is not allowed. The upshot is that the city beaches are for swimming, not for eFoil.

Oliva Surf, the nearest school

Oliva Surf, a kitesurf and eFoil school, sits on Passeig Francisco Brines 92 on the beach of Oliva. That is a town of its own in the province of Valencia and the Gandía maritime district, not part of Dénia. Every session comes with an instructor, life jacket, helmet and support boat. A briefing on land comes first, and you sign a waiver before your first session. Beginners fly at minimum speed on large, stable wings, and only net time on the water counts.

The 2026 rates, read in October 2026, are €65 for 30 minutes and €95 for an hour for one person. Bundles of three, five or ten sessions bring the price down. The school publishes no eFoil season, so outside summer ask whether sessions run.

What it means for a city visitor

Treat eFoil as a day trip from the city. Oliva beach is about 80 km from the city center by car. Without one, take the Cercanías C-1 from Valencia-Nord to Gandía and cover the last stretch by road. Book your 30 or 60 minutes ahead. Dénia, with more formats such as rental hours, is about 115 km from Valencia airport, which Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5 link to the city. Valencia's sea runs from 13 to 14 °C in February to about 27 °C in August.

Channels, the 200 m strip and a marine reserve

No resolution from the Capitanía Marítima of Alicante or Valencia names eFoils, or none that a search of their notices turned up. The state rules apply, and the harbor master may change zones and periods locally or suspend riding. Where this section says how a text applies to an eFoil, it is an interpretation, since none of the texts names the board.

Bathing zones, channels and the 200 m strip

RD 1043/2003 of 1 August, art. 2, covers motor craft other than jet skis that can exceed 10 knots; Oliva Surf states 10 to 40 km/h for its boards, so eFoils clear that line and fall under it. Art. 6 shapes every start. No riding inside a buoyed bathing zone; you go in and out through a buoyed channel at three knots at most. Where nothing is buoyed, the 200 m strip off the beach is closed except for a straight run in or out at the same speed. Port enclosures and marinas are off limits, you keep 50 m from other craft, you stay visible from land, and you ride only from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset.

RD 876/2014, art. 73, closes buoyed bathing zones to any sail or motor craft and caps speed at three knots within 200 m of a beach and 50 m of the rest of the coast. RD 259/2002, art. 10, provides launch channels for jet skis and other beach craft, and the Ministry's guidance is to cross the 200 m strip at right angles to the shore, with caution and under three knots. Riding outside the channel, inside a bathing zone or too fast in the strip is a serious infringement under RDL 2/2011, art. 307.2 l).

License, registration, kit and age

RD 1435/2010 (BOE-A-2010-17038), art. 2 q), lists “tablas deslizantes con motor” among beach craft, and art. 3.2 exempts them from registration; an eFoil, a motor board by any description, carries no plate. RD 875/2014, art. 10.1 c), as amended by RD 1188/2025 of 26 December and in force since 1 October 2026, needs no license for such craft within 2 nautical miles of the port, marina or beach you leave from, by day, and art. 10.3 sets the age at 18. That adds up to no license to rent or ride an eFoil here, though no authority has published a decision on the point that we know of.

RD 1043/2003, art. 5, asks for a kill switch, a life jacket of at least 100 N with a whistle, a floating helmet and protective goggles. Art. 4 requires accident insurance on rental craft, and art. 3 sets the age at 18, or 16 with the signed consent of parents or guardians.

The marine reserve off Les Rotes

Decreto 19/2015 of 13 February (DOGV 7466) protects the Cabo de San Antonio marine reserve. Its art. 3.1 e) bans water sports with motor craft, jet skis and any self-propelled craft in the inner waters, and art. 3.1 a) bans anchoring there. In plain words, no eFoil along Les Rotes, from Punta de Sant Nicolau to Cabo de Sant Antoni. The ban covers this stretch of inner waters, not the whole coast between Dénia and Xàbia.

Put together, these texts rule out riding inside the harbors and marinas of Dénia, Xàbia, Moraira, Calp, Altea, Benidorm, Alicante and Torrevieja. A school that starts in a harbor takes you out by boat or has you ride from outside it. All of this is a rider's summary of the published texts and no kind of legal advice.

What half an hour, an hour or a day costs

Each figure below comes straight from the operator's own site, read in October 2026. The cheapest way onto a board is 30 private minutes at Kite45º for €69. A first instructed hour costs €119 to €150, and a trained rider pays €99 to €130 to hire for an hour.

Not every hour here is sixty minutes. eFoil Moraira's €150 adds a 15-minute briefing to the hour, Ocean Flyers' €120 buys 65 minutes, and Board Club's €150 comes without a stated Costa Blanca spot. Our eFoil price guide sets these against buying a board.

Light wind, almost no tide, and the months we would pick

Average sea temperature off Alicante (temperaturadelmar.es)
MonthSeaMonthSea
Februaryabout 14 °CAugustabout 27 °C
Mayabout 19 °CSeptemberabout 26 °C
Juneabout 23 °COctoberabout 23 °C

AEMET's 1981 to 2010 normals give Alicante a mean daily maximum of 17.0 °C in January, 21.3 °C in April, 30.8 °C in August and 24.9 °C in October, with 2,851 hours of sunshine a year. September and October are the wettest months. Tides barely register. Mean sea level at Alicante is the zero for altitudes across peninsular Spain, partly because the Mediterranean's tidal range is so small.

Dénia mostly stays under 4 Beaufort, with stronger days more common from January to March than in September and October. Around Alicante it blows more often than in the sheltered bays, and Torrevieja rarely sees 4 Beaufort or more. Operators sell eFoil as independent of wind and waves, which holds on most days but not all.

Our pick is May, June, September or October, with water around 19 to 26 °C and mostly light wind. July and August bring warm water but full beaches and buoyed bathing zones, so every start goes through a channel. In winter the sea sits at about 14 to 15 °C and you need a wetsuit; ask the school what it provides. Ocean Flyers says it is open all year, eFoil Moraira provides wetsuits when the water is colder, and Kite45º and Oliva Surf publish no season.

Cheaper than Marbella, fewer schools than Mallorca

On the Costa del Sol, Seven Palms charges €265 for a private hour on the Marbella Club Hotel beach and Aquatime €200 on the Puente Romano beach (read in October 2026). Set against that, the Costa Blanca's €119 to €150 is the smaller bill by some distance. As in Alicante, Málaga city has no eFoil school with its own base. The sea off Málaga is about 15 °C in February, slightly warmer than here, and about 24 °C in August, a few degrees cooler.

Mallorca has nine eFoil operators on two coasts, from €85 for 30 minutes at Wind Pirates and with an instructed hour from €155 to €250 (read in September and October 2026). Palma's sea runs from about 14 °C in February to 27 °C in August, matching Alicante's. The trade is simple enough: the island gives more choice, while the Costa Blanca charges less per hour and is a car trip on the mainland.

Alicante airport, the coastal tram and the Dénia ferry

Alicante-Elche airport lies 8 km southwest of Alicante and handled almost 20 million passengers in 2024. By road it is about 50 km from Torrevieja, 65 km from Benidorm, 70 km from Altea, 100 km from Moraira and 110 km from Dénia. Dénia is about as far from Valencia airport, at roughly 115 km.

Without a car, TRAM d'Alacant Line 1 runs from Luceros in Alicante to Benidorm. Line 9 carries on to Dénia through L'Alfàs del Pi, Altea, Calp, Benissa, Teulada and Gata de Gorgos, and since 28 January 2025 you no longer change trains on the way.

Dénia is also a ferry port, with Baleària sailings to Ibiza, Palma and Formentera, so a Costa Blanca week can end on the islands. Our Ibiza eFoil guide picks up there.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I eFoil in Jávea (Xàbia)?

Off El Arenal, Granadella or Cala Portitxol. Those are the three spots E-Foil Costa Blanca names for learning in calm water without strong currents. The service is based in Dénia and brings the board to you; the exact place is confirmed when you book, by WhatsApp.

I am staying in Benidorm or Alicante. Who will take me out?

Neither town had an eFoil school with a fixed base when we checked in October 2026. Benidorm is on the lists of both Board Club and E-Foil Costa Blanca, so you can book a session there and ask where to meet. From Alicante, the closest fixed base we found is Ocean Flyers in Torrevieja.

What is the cheapest way to try one on this coast?

Thirty private minutes at Kite45º in Dénia for €69. A full first hour with an instructor runs €119 to €150 along the coast (list prices, October 2026).

Already riding? Which Costa Blanca schools hire the board out by the hour?

At Kite45º, only once you ride on your own or have had more than 3 hours of lessons; then an hour costs €99. E-Foil Costa Blanca, which also covers Calpe, lists rental from €80 for a 20-minute intro to €130 for an hour (both read in October 2026).

How far from Valencia city is the nearest eFoil?

About 80 km by road. The city itself had nothing to offer in October 2026; the nearest school is Oliva Surf on the beach at Oliva, with 30 minutes for €65 and an hour for €95 in its 2026 rates. Without a car, the C-1 train to Gandía covers most of the way.

Will anyone ask for a boat license, and how old must a rider be?

No license, under the rules in force since 1 October 2026: RD 875/2014 art. 10.1 c), amended by RD 1188/2025, lets you handle floating or beach craft without one within 2 nautical miles of your launch, by day, from age 18. RD 1043/2003 art. 3 sets 18, or 16 with signed parental consent. Neither text settles a lesson for a minor led by an instructor, so ask the school before you book a child.
