eFoil Spain

Where Spain's schools cluster, what a first half hour costs, and which coasts still ride in winter

Last updated:

More than fifty places, and big gaps between them

Mallorca alone has nine eFoil operators. We count more than fifty places across Spain that sell a lesson or a rental, yet no school is based in Málaga city, Valencia city or Alicante, and nobody turned up in Tarragona, Salou or Cambrils.

Many schools work from a sheltered bay or from behind a harbor wall, as on the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia on Mallorca, at the Port Olímpic in Barcelona or in Corralejo Bay on Fuerteventura. The Mar Menor is a salt lagoon cut off from the sea by a sand strip. Two operators ride away from the sea altogether, on the lake at La Reserva in Sotogrande and on the Gabriel y Galán reservoir in Extremadura. Everyone else rides open coast, launching from a beach or a boat.

In most regions a short first session costs about €65 to €90. Haller on Ibiza sits at the far end, at €285 for 45 minutes one to one.

All prices on this page are operators' list prices, read in September and October 2026. Boards, group sizes and time on the water differ from school to school, so check what is included before you compare the figure.

We fill the season column from the operators' own pages and leave guesses out. Water temperatures are monthly means for the coldest and warmest month, rounded.

An island or the mainland?

Mallorca and Ibiza have the densest choice of schools, and on both islands some operators bring the board out to a yacht. Ibiza is the dearer of the two. Its cheapest first session we found, €180 for 45 minutes, costs more than most full hours on the mainland.

In winter the Canaries win on warmth, with the sea around 19 to 21 °C while the Mediterranean sits at 13 to 15 °C. Direct flights reach all four main islands from Gatwick, Manchester, Dublin and many regional airports in the UK and Ireland. Tenerife Sur airport is next door to El Médano, where two of the schools ride.

The mainland is cheaper at the short end and easier to combine. With a hire car on the Costa Blanca, Dénia one day and Torrevieja the next is a simple plan, and Alicante airport is about 50 km from Torrevieja.

Ferries tie the two together. Baleària sails from Dénia to Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca, with Ibiza 2 to 3 hours away. Lanzarote has no eFoil school of its own, but Fred. Olsen crosses from Playa Blanca to Corralejo in 25 minutes.

Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca

Mallorca

The north has the El Niño group, Kite and Yoga, Wind Pirates and Mallorca Kiteboarding, all on the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia. Around Palma the bases are at Can Pastilla, Puerto Portals, Port Calanova and Camp de Mar. Wind Pirates sells a first taste of 30 minutes for €85. An instructed hour runs €155 to €250, and riders who already fly pay €89 to €250 an hour to rent. Each of those bases gets its own section in the Mallorca guide.

Ibiza and Formentera

Offers on Ibiza cluster in four areas: Port des Torrent and Cala Comte in the west, Cala Jondal and Es Xarco in the south, Marina Botafoc in town and Santa Eulària in the east. TAKEOFF sells 45 minutes for €180, Haller 45 minutes one to one for €285, and a day with a board costs €450 to €600. The season runs from May to October.

On Formentera, SiFly lists eFoil Formentera at Cala Saona as a dealer, service point and school. For the beaches, the boat deliveries and the crossing to Formentera, read the Ibiza page.

Menorca

Wind Fornells, on the bay of Fornells, sells a 45 minute private lesson for €92 “on an eFoil or Foil Drive”, so ask which board you will get. Kit and a wetsuit are included, and the school opens from May to October. For the rest of the island, see eFoil on Menorca.

Barcelona, Sitges and the Costa Brava

Water Toys Team rides Fliteboards out of the Port Olímpic. The intro session costs €129 with about an hour on the water, and the school rents all year. Efoil Club brings Lift boards to you, at €160 for a private hour, and a call out fee may apply. Launch spots, trains and winter water temperatures are on the Barcelona page.

Sunrise over the sea at the Barceloneta in Barcelona, the sail shaped W hotel tower on the breakwater and a small wave breaking on the sand
The Barceloneta beach in Barcelona at sunrise.

Sitges is about 40 minutes south by car. There, Nau·Tech at Port d'Aiguadolç charges €125 for an hour with an instructor and asks every rider for ID. North of the city, Maresme Waves in El Masnou sells a one hour session for €90, which you can ride alone or split with a companion.

On the Costa Brava we found a live offer in four towns. E-foil Express at Blanes rents to advanced riders at €150 an hour. At Pals, e-Foil Experience charges €65 for 30 minutes facing the Medes Islands. Nautiq in Llafranc runs a two hour boat trip with two boards for up to ten people at €500, and Boats Mediterrani in Roses charges €195 an hour. Expect the season to run from late spring to October.

Book a morning. The marinada blows onshore from mid morning until dark, mostly in summer, and peaks after midday. Far to the south, Deltakitesup at La Ràpita teaches on SiFly boards in the Delta de l'Ebre but publishes no price.

The Costa Blanca, and Valencia without a base

Prices here sit near the bottom of the Spanish range. In Dénia, Kite45º (eFoilSpain) charges €69 for 30 private minutes and €119 for the hour. It rents at €99 an hour, but only to riders who already fly or have had more than 3 hours of lessons. eFoil Moraira asks €150 for the hour and teaches all year, while Board Club sells 60 minutes at Calp, Altea and Benidorm for €150.

Further south, Ocean Flyers works from the Playa del Acequión in Torrevieja all year. A beginner session one to one costs €90 for 45 minutes, and rental is €100 an hour after a skill check. The school rides between the harbor walls, in water it describes as calm and wave free. No school publishes a base in Alicante city itself.

Wind on this coast is mostly light. Our pick for a lesson is May, June, September or October, with water at about 19 to 25 °C. July and August are warm but crowded, and buoyed swimming zones line the beaches.

The Cabo de San Antonio marine reserve, between Dénia and Xàbia, bans water sports with any self-propelled craft (Decreto 19/2015). An eFoil drives itself, so we take the ban to include it, and a rented board stays outside the reserve.

Valencia city

Wing foil is taught in Valencia; eFoil is not. The nearest eFoil is Oliva Surf in Oliva, about 80 km by road, where every session comes with an instructor and a support boat. The 2026 rates are €65 for 30 minutes and €95 for an hour. Without a car, take the Cercanías C-1 to Gandía and go on by road.

The Mar Menor, a lagoon behind La Manga

A 22 km strip of sand, La Manga, keeps the Mediterranean out. Behind it the lagoon covers 135 km² with a mean depth of 4 m, so it warms and cools fast: about 11 to 12 °C in January, above 30 °C in late July and August 2026.

Kalima Charter, at the Puerto Deportivo Tomás Maestre, sells 45 minutes on the eFoil plus 15 minutes of training for €80. It runs all year, lends wetsuits in autumn and winter and wants 8 hours' notice. Summer wind over the lagoon averages 4.7 knots at 09:00 and 8.9 knots at 15:00, which makes the morning slot the calm one.

Marbella, Sotogrande and the Cádiz coast

Three operators work between Marbella, Estepona and Sotogrande. Seven Palms rides Fliteboards off the Marbella Club Hotel beach and in Estepona, at €265 for a private hour. On the Puente Romano beach, Aquatime charges €100 for 30 minutes and €200 for an hour. Blua Blue rides the lake at La Reserva in Sotogrande, not the sea, at €250 an hour in low season and €390 from June to August.

From Málaga city it is about 60 km by road to the nearest priced lessons, in Marbella. The Costa del Sol guide sorts the hotel beaches from Marbella west to Sotogrande.

Tarifa and the Cádiz coast

Tarifa is kite and windsurf water, and nobody there sells a bookable eFoil lesson. Surf Center Tarifa does sell a “Duotone Assisted Foil” hour for €150. That is foil assist, a motor helping an ordinary foil board, not an eFoil.

The Canaries for a winter session

The sea off El Médano on Tenerife averages 19.2 °C in March, its coldest month. Corralejo on Fuerteventura reads 18.7 °C in February and March. Wind is the catch. El Médano, Pozo Izquierdo and Sotavento are kite and windsurf water first, so eFoil sessions move to the calm hours under 10 knots, mostly in the morning.

At El Médano, the Duotone Pro Center charges €170 for a private hour and rents at €120 an hour after a first lesson. In Corralejo, Jetsurf charges €79 for 30 minutes, while Flyfoil on Fuerteventura's south coast rides only from November to April. On Gran Canaria, eFoil Canarias in Las Palmas arranges sessions by message. Lanzarote and the islands without a school are covered in the Canary Islands guide.

Galicia, the north coast and the reservoirs

Feel Kitesurf, based in Cesantes, rides anywhere in the Rías Baixas of Galicia, from Baiona to O Grove. It charges €100 per battery, and one battery lasts 1 to 2 hours. Off Vigo the sea peaks at 18.4 °C in September.

Further east, North Spain Lift Foils sells and services Lift boards in Asturias, Cantabria and the País Vasco, and Board Club lists a second base at Hondarribia with no session place or price. We found no eFoil school in Cantabria.

Inland, Panthos runs classes on the Embalse de Gabriel y Galán in Extremadura from May to September, with a support boat and an instructor on the water. We found no eFoil operator on any of Madrid's reservoirs.

The decrees behind every Spanish eFoil session

Real Decreto 1435/2010 of 5 November 2010 lists “tablas deslizantes con motor”, motorized gliding boards, among floating or beach craft in art. 2 q). Its art. 3.2 leaves that class out of registration, so, as we read it, an eFoil carries no plate. None of the texts in this section says “eFoil”, which makes every fit below our own reading.

The license question changed on 1 October 2026. Since then, Real Decreto 875/2014 of 10 October 2014, art. 10, as amended by Real Decreto 1188/2025 of 26 December 2025, requires no license for such craft in daylight, within 2 nautical miles of the point of departure, from age 18. We read that as covering an eFoil.

Riding itself falls under Real Decreto 1043/2003 of 1 August 2003, written for motorized craft other than jet skis that can pass 10 knots (art. 2), which we take to include the eFoil. It sets a minimum age of 18, or 16 with signed consent from parents or guardians (art. 3). The two decrees put the age differently, so a rider under 18 should ask the school before booking. The 2003 decree also asks for an automatic engine cut-off (art. 5.1), a life jacket, a helmet that floats and goggles (art. 5.4). Article 6 adds the beach rules:

  • no riding in buoyed bathing zones;
  • in and out only through buoyed channels, or straight across the 200 m strip where nothing is buoyed, at 3 knots or less;
  • no riding inside ports or marinas, or within 50 m of other craft;
  • only from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset, in good visibility.

The port ban explains a familiar routine: a marina school kits you up on shore, and the riding starts outside the harbor. Real Decreto 876/2014 of 10 October 2014, art. 73.2, sets the unbuoyed bathing strip at 200 m off a beach and 50 m off the rest of the coast. Riding inside a buoyed bathing zone, outside the access channels or too fast in that strip is an “infracción grave” under art. 307.2 l) of Real Decreto Legislativo 2/2011 of 5 September 2011.

Local texts add their own limits to the state rules. Valencia's beach ordinance of 30 April 2010 sends motor and sail craft to the city's nautical zones (art. 46.3). On Ibiza, Decreto 24/2002 of 15 February 2002 restricts motorized beach rentals around es Vedrà, es Vedranell and the western islets. On the mainland, Decreto 19/2015 of 13 February 2015 bans self-propelled craft in the Cabo de San Antonio reserve.

This section summarizes official texts as we read them on 25 October 2026. It is not legal advice; for a decision that matters, ask the school or the local Capitanía Marítima.

Which board, what deposit, what to pack

Fliteboard is the board you will meet at many schools, among them eFoil Riders, TAKEOFF, Water Toys Team, Board Club, Ocean Flyers and Seven Palms. Lift turns up at Efoil Club, the Duotone Pro Center and Line Up, SiFly at Mallorca Kiteboarding, Deltakitesup and Flyfoil, and Waydoo at Panthos.

Wetsuits, helmets and vests come with the session at some schools and cost extra at others. Some operators take a deposit, from €20 per board at Blanes to €500 at EIVIBOATS, and some ask for ID, so pack your passport. Booking runs by online calendar, messaging app or contact form.

If you want a board of your own, the eFoil price guide explains what one would cost, and for a trip further west there is eFoil in Portugal.

Frequently asked questions

Which part of Spain suits a first timer best?

Mallorca has the widest choice, with nine operators on two coasts, and El Niño there teaches all year. The Costa Blanca costs less: Kite45º in Dénia sells 30 minutes for €69. In winter the Canaries have the warmest water.

What do Spanish schools charge for a lesson?

Between €65 and €390. The low end is half an hour at Oliva or Pals, the high end an hour on the lake at Sotogrande in high season. Both are operators' list prices, read in September and October 2026.

Does a visitor need any license or certificate to ride an eFoil in Spain?

No, since 1 October 2026, on our reading. Real Decreto 875/2014, art. 10, as amended by Real Decreto 1188/2025, lets anyone aged 18 or over handle floating and beach craft without a license, in daylight and within 2 nautical miles of where they set off, and we read an eFoil as such a craft. Real Decreto 1043/2003 on motorized craft lets 16 and 17 year olds ride with signed consent from parents or guardians, so a teenager should ask the school. This is not legal advice.

Where in Spain can you eFoil between November and March?

The Canaries are the safe bet, with the sea at about 19 to 21 °C. On the Mediterranean, Kalima, Ocean Flyers, eFoil Moraira and El Niño say they run all year; expect a wetsuit in water of about 13 to 15 °C.

Can I take an eFoil lesson in Valencia or Alicante itself?

Not in either city. The nearest are Oliva Surf, about 80 km south of Valencia, and Torrevieja or Dénia for Alicante.

How much experience do Spanish schools want before they rent you a board?

Enough to fly on your own. The Duotone Pro Center on Tenerife rents after a first lesson, Ocean Flyers in Torrevieja after a skill check, and Kite45º in Dénia to riders who already fly or have had more than 3 hours of lessons.
