eFoil on Ibiza

Beach lessons at Port des Torrent and Cala Jondal, boards sent out to yachts and villas, and the Spanish state rules and Balearic park decrees that decide where a motorized board may go

Last updated:

Ibiza eFoil sessions start on a beach or beside a boat

Only a handful of operators teach from a fixed beach: TAKEOFF and Water Toys Team at Port des Torrent in the west, Ibiza Foils and Water Toys Team at Cala Jondal in the south. Most of the others bring the board to you, to a boat at anchor, a marina berth, a villa or a beach.

Prices below are list prices as read on the operators' own sites in October 2026. Most publish in English; TAKEOFF's eFoil page is in Spanish, and nobody says which languages the instructors speak. For the bigger island next door, see our Mallorca eFoil guide; for islands further east, our Greece eFoil guide does the same.

Beach lessons

Port des Torrent, Cala Jondal

First session

From €180 for 45 min

Season

May to October

License

None, on our reading

Two schools work the sheltered inlet at Port des Torrent

The road along the bay of Sant Antoni (San Antonio on many maps) ends at Port des Torrent, a deep, sheltered inlet in the Cala de Bou area with calm, shallow water, golden sand and pines. The wind is always light there, though sometimes cross or offshore. It lies 20 km from Eivissa (Ibiza town) and 7 from Sant Josep. From Sant Antoni you can walk, and a regular bus serves it.

TAKEOFF Ibiza

TAKEOFF rides Fliteboards. You meet at its activity center at Calle Valencia 24 in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, not on the sand, and after a land briefing on the remote, balance, safety and signals, the instructor takes you on to Port des Torrent. Sessions run from 45 minutes (at most 2 people) through 90 minutes (3) to 3 hours (4), starting at €180 for 45 minutes. In 2026 the calendar ran to the end of October.

Wetsuits and impact vests are supplied. You must be able to swim. The school advises against the session in pregnancy, for wheelchair users and for anyone with back problems. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, and a session lost to the weather is moved or refunded.

Water Toys Team, and a word on Cala Comte

Water Toys Team (WTT) teaches on the Fliteboard Air, rated at up to 40 km/h (about 25 mph), and prices per group with VAT: €250 for one board and up to 2 people, €450 for two boards and 4, €650 for three boards and 6. Its site gives the session both as 90 minutes and as about an hour, so ask which one you are booking.

Cala Comte is a chain of small sandy coves facing the islets of s'Illa des Bosc, sa Conillera and s'Espartar. The leisure agency LocosxIbiza sells 1 h 30 there for €150, naming neither a brand nor an instructor. Those islets sit in a nature reserve closed to motorized beach rentals, so ask the operator where you may ride.

Lessons and test rides off the pebbles at Cala Jondal

Bathing platforms and beach clubs line the stones, and motorboats and yachts lie at anchor just off them. Cala Jondal faces south, 12.5 km from Eivissa at the end of an unpaved last stretch, and its light winds always blow onshore.

Ibiza Foils at Tropicana beach

Ibiza Foils works only from the Tropicana stretch, seven days a week from May to October, with Lift (LIFT4) and Fliteboard (PRO) boards you can try before buying one. No experience or particular fitness is needed. The instructor talks to you through a radio in the helmet, and a boat stays alongside.

With taxes, one hour on one board for up to 3 people costs €250, and the riders take turns. Two hours is €450 for up to 6 people on one board, or €800 for up to 12 on two. Riders who already fly can charter a LIFT4 or Fliteboard PRO for 24 hours at €450, plus €120 for an instructor, €185 for an extra battery (roughly double the water time), €120 for a charger and €100 for delivery. The tow foil at €85 is something else: 30 minutes pulled behind the boat, with no motor under the board.

Es Xarco, and where the park begins

WTT works this beach as well as Es Xarco, a small, quiet south facing cove of sand and rock 13.5 km from Eivissa where the water deepens close in. The steep dirt road down is in poor condition, so for an eFoil you mostly come by boat. The ses Salines Natural Park begins at the headland that closes Cala Jondal, and nobody should round it alone; keep to the school's area.

Ibiza town, Santa Eulària and boards that come to your boat

Marina Botafoc faces Ibiza town across the harbor. Spanish rules ban riding inside ports and marinas, so whatever you rent there is ridden outside the port.

eFoil Riders and Haller Experiences at Marina Botafoc

eFoil Riders has a showroom and Fliteboard service center there. It rents Fliteboards, plus Awake jetboards and Seabobs, which have no foil. The 90 minute beginner course starts on land and goes on with a coach on the water; after it you may rent with a short safety briefing. Prices are on request.

Haller Experiences rides Aerofoils, the board formerly sold as the Audi e-tron foil. A 45 minute one to one lesson costs €285, with vest, helmet, shirt and towel. An extra battery is €130, beach delivery €65, and an 8 hour day €580 per person including VAT. Haller does not say where it rides.

Santa Eulària des Riu on the east coast

In Santa Eulària des Riu (Santa Eulalia), EIVIBOATS adds an eFoil to a full day of boat rental from the marina, at €363 with one battery (1.5 h) or €484 with two (3 h), 21 % VAT included. Basic instructions and safety kit come with it, against a €500 deposit. Without the boat there is no board. The AERO4 bus runs there from the airport.

Delivery to yachts, marinas and villas

WTT delivers day rentals, on prior confirmation, to Marina Botafoc, Marina de Ibiza, Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, Port de Santa Eulària, Marina Magna and Marina la Savina on Formentera. A Fliteboard Air costs €450, a FliteScooter €500 and a carbon Fliteboard €600 plus a €1,500 deposit, each with charger, vest, helmet and a short orientation, no experience required. Efoil Club, a Lift partner with no named base, brings a board with fast charger, vest, helmet and a brief land lesson for €500 a day, or two boards for €900.

On a day rental with one battery, plan on about 1.5 to 2 hours on the water. WTT quotes 60 to 90 minutes per Fliteboard battery, Efoil Club about 2 hours, Haller up to 2, and our eFoil battery guide explains what moves those numbers.

Formentera: the eFoil arrives by boat, the wing school is on Ses Illetes

Formentera has no airport. The ferry from Ibiza runs all year, 30 to 35 minutes to La Savina, and we found no eFoil school based on the island. Boards cross with TAKEOFF or LocosxIbiza, or WTT brings one to Marina la Savina.

The ses Salines Natural Park, sea included, takes in Ses Illetes, Es Trucadors and s'Espalmador. On our reading its ban on jet skis and similar craft covers the eFoil.

Wing foiling at Ses Illetes

Ses Illetes faces west on the Es Trucadors peninsula, more than 450 m of beach in two parts with calm, shallow, turquoise water. You wing foil there; you do not eFoil. Whitesand Surf teaches all levels with instructor, equipment, insurance and a support boat, from €75 an hour, three minutes along the boardwalk from the Illetes parking.

Two nautical miles and no plate, as we read Spanish law

Spain, like the UK, asks for no license for the board. Who sets everything else is where the two part ways. In the UK, harbors, lakes and navigation authorities decide permits, registration and speed limits locally (see our UK eFoil guide). Spain fixes distance, zone, age and daylight rules for the whole country, and no state or Balearic text ever uses the word eFoil.

No license, no registration plate

Real Decreto 1435/2010 of 5 November 2010 lists motorized boards (“tablas deslizantes con motor”) among beach craft in article 2 q) v), and article 3.2 exempts beach craft from registration. On our reading, then, no registration and no plate. Since 1 October 2026, article 10 of Real Decreto 875/2014 of 10 October 2014, as amended by article 4.1 of Real Decreto 1188/2025 of 26 December 2025 (BOE of 30 December 2025), lets you handle beach craft without a license, by day, from age 18 and up to 2 nautical miles from the port, marina or beach you start from, jet skis excepted. We read that as no Spanish license for an eFoil.

The preamble of RD 1188/2025 keeps the license free regime for small motorboats (up to 5 m and 15 CV) to private and sporting use, so whoever rents one needs the license. As we read it, that hits the small rented boat and leaves the eFoil alone.

What RD 1043/2003 asks of rider and board

Real Decreto 1043/2003 of 1 August 2003 covers motorized craft other than jet skis able to exceed 10 knots (article 2). With the Fliteboard Air rated at up to 40 km/h, we read it as applying to an eFoil. Article 5 asks for:

  • an automatic engine stop if the rider falls
  • an approved life jacket of at least 100 N, with a whistle
  • a helmet that keeps its buoyancy
  • protective goggles

Article 4 adds civil liability insurance, plus accident insurance on rented craft. No Ibiza operator page mentions goggles. Eighteen is the age rule (article 10 of RD 875/2014), and article 3 of RD 1043/2003 lets 16 and 17 year olds ride with signed consent from parents or guardians.

Where the board may not go, and how slow near shore

Article 6 of RD 1043/2003 bans riding in buoyed bathing zones and inside ports, marinas included, and holds the marked channels to three knots. Where nothing is buoyed, the 200 m coastal strip is closed except for going straight out or in at three knots or less. Riders keep 50 m from other craft and clear of anchored boats, and ride only from an hour after sunrise to an hour before sunset, in good visibility and weather. The harbor master may change zones or ban riding.

Real Decreto 876/2014 of 10 October 2014, article 73.1 and 73.2, closes buoyed bathing zones to any craft under sail or motor and holds unbuoyed water to three knots within 200 m of beaches and 50 m of the rest of the coast; on our reading that binds the wing too. Breaking those limits is a serious (“grave”) infringement under article 307.2 l) of Real Decreto Legislativo 2/2011 of 5 September 2011.

On Ibiza that means the port ban at Botafoc and Santa Eulària, the anchored yachts off Cala Jondal and the swimming lane at Port des Torrent. The harbor master is the Capitanía Marítima de Eivissa/Formentera in Ibiza, not Palma.

These are our readings of the official texts, not legal advice.

Posidonia meadows, the ses Salines park and the Vedrà islets

About 85 % of the ses Salines Natural Park of Ibiza and Formentera is sea. Inside lie Es Cavallet and ses Salines beach on Ibiza as well as the Formentera spots above. The park plan, Decreto 132/2005 of 23 December 2005 (BOIB 196 of 31 December 2005), bans jet skis and similar recreational or water sport craft in article 102.1 e), and we read the eFoil as one of them.

The es Vedrà, es Vedranell and western islets reserves (Decreto 24/2002, BOIB 23 of 21 February 2002) allow quiet navigation but ban the motorized craft of seasonal beach rentals. Decreto 25/2018 of 27 July 2018 generally prohibits anchoring on Posidonia oceanica, and the park has buoy fields. That binds the support boat or the yacht, not the board.

A wing has no motor, and the park plan leaves sailing craft out of its ban, so on our reading neither motor ban catches it. Bathing zone rules still do.

Wing foiling on Ibiza starts at the Sant Antoni sailing club

In 2026 the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni ran wing foil courses from May to 11 September, four two hour sessions with at most four students per instructor, taught from an inflatable boat inside and outside the bay wherever wind and sea suited. No price is published. In October 2024 and 2025 the bay hosted the Ibiza Wingfoil Open, a national event of the club and the Spanish sailing federation, with the inner bay set aside for racing and beginners.

EIWISS Wingfoil Ibiza teaches and rents at Es Codolar, according to the Global Wingsports Association list. It is a long, west facing pebble beach beside the airport and the salt pans, 9.5 km from Ibiza town, and generally sheltered, since westerlies are uncommon in summer. Easterlies bring waves, and when the wind picks up the kitesurfers and windsurfers arrive.

Summer wind is often light, so pick a course with a boat that takes you to the wind; our wing foiling page covers the sport.

May to October on Ibiza: air, sea and a light southerly

Ibiza Foils is open from May to October, and in 2026 the TAKEOFF calendar ran to the end of October. Outside that window, ask first.

Windfinder puts the wind at Ibiza airport mostly from the south, about 8 knots over the year. That breeze is onshore at Cala Jondal and Es Xarco, now and then offshore or cross shore at Port des Torrent and Cala Comte. With an offshore breeze a beginner drifts out, as we see it, so let the school pick the bay. An eFoil needs neither wind nor waves, so a lesson depends less on the weather than a kite course does.

Flights, ferries and buses

In October 2026 Aena listed London (Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and City), Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin among the airport's destinations. Ferries from the mainland sail all year, about 9 hours from Barcelona, just over 6 from Valencia, 2 to 3 from Dénia.

AERO1 runs from the airport to Sant Josep and the Sant Antoni tourist area, AERO2 to Ibiza bus station, AERO4 to Santa Eulària; check the timetable. Port des Torrent has a regular bus and Cala Comte a summer one, while Cala Jondal and Es Xarco take a car or a bike. From Eivissa it is 12.5 km to Cala Jondal, 20 to Port des Torrent and 24 to Cala Comte.

Frequently asked questions

What does a first eFoil session cost on Ibiza?

From €180 for 45 minutes at TAKEOFF, a list price read in October 2026. A session on one shared board costs €250 at Ibiza Foils or Water Toys Team, and Haller Experiences asks €285 for 45 minutes one to one.

Is a boating license required for an eFoil on Ibiza?

No, as we read Spanish law. Since 1 October 2026 beach craft, motorized boards included, need no license by day, from age 18, within 2 nautical miles of the port, marina or beach you start from. They need no registration either.

Can you eFoil on Formentera?

Only from a boat or with a board delivered to one. No eFoil school has a fixed base on the island, and the ses Salines Natural Park, which takes in Ses Illetes, Es Trucadors and s'Espalmador, bans jet skis and similar craft; we read the eFoil as one of them. A wing has no motor, the park plan leaves sailing craft out of the ban, and Whitesand Surf teaches on Ses Illetes.

Will an Ibiza firm rent a board to someone who has never ridden?

Some will. Water Toys Team asks for no prior experience and adds a short orientation, Efoil Club includes a brief land lesson, while Ibiza Foils keeps its day charter for riders who already fly.

Can I fly to Ibiza with my own eFoil?

Not with its battery. Passenger planes cap lithium batteries at 160 Wh and eFoil packs hold roughly 500 to 2,600 Wh, so you rent on the island.

Which months can you book an eFoil on Ibiza?

May to October. Outside those months, ask the school before you plan around it.
