Marbella first, then Estepona and Sotogrande
Seven Palms Water Sports and Aquatime, both in Marbella, ride from a base of their own and publish a price. So does Blua Blue Watersports in Sotogrande, which belongs to the province of Cádiz, and that makes three on this coast. Seven Palms adds a second beach in Estepona. The rest are pointers, not bases. A school works by the cable ski lake in San Pedro, a shop in Fuengirola sells classes through booking sites, and Puerto Banús has a buyer demo.
Between them they cover open sea off the Golden Mile and Estepona, two enclosed lakes at La Reserva and San Pedro, and sessions brought out to a yacht. The right one for you depends mostly on how much you have flown a board before.
Prices here are list prices read on the operators' own sites and brochures in October 2026. For the islands, see our Mallorca eFoil guide and the Ibiza guide; further up the coast, our Barcelona guide covers the city beaches.

Who sells a first lesson, and who sells solo hours
At Seven Palms the instructor explains board, remote, balance and hand signals, then, in the school's words, “will accompany you at all times out on the water”. A private one to one hour costs €265, or €299 with a PRO instructor. Two riders can share one instructor for 90 minutes and take turns on the board for €325, and groups of three or more start at €449.
Aquatime is the cheaper way to find out whether you like it, at €100 for 30 minutes or €200 for the hour. Its Puente Romano sessions are sold by more than one company, and those pages disagree on whether an instructor goes out with you. Before you pay, ask whether someone stays with you on the water.
Read the operators' own labels and the riders sort themselves. A first timer fits Seven Palms' private or shared lesson, or Aquatime's half hour. A rider who already flies fits Seven Palms' eFoil Hours or a rental from Blua Blue, which marks its rental for experienced riders. So does its premium eFoil lesson, which rules Sotogrande out for a first flight on the eFoil itself. The scooter lesson there is open to teens and adults.
The water splits the choice a second time. The Golden Mile is open sea, with whatever the day brings in. The lake at La Reserva suits a rider who wants no waves.
Seven Palms has a third option for anyone unsure about standing up. Its Flite Scooter is ridden seated, with a minimal learning curve, for €125 for 30 minutes or €175 for an hour, and a weekly Flite Club runs for adults and children, with no price or days published.
Marbella Club and Puente Romano, 600 m apart on the Golden Mile
West of Marbella town, the beaches of the Marbella Club Hotel and the Hotel Puente Romano sit about 600 m apart. Seven Palms rides Fliteboards off the first. Aquatime has a base on the second and another at the Marbella marina. Neither school says which stretch of water it uses once the board is off the sand.
Marbella counts 24 beaches, all of them urban, with waves that are generally moderate. Moderate is not flat, and here the school picks the day and the spot.
Seven Palms at the Marbella Club Hotel
Every booking is confirmed 24 hours ahead. When conditions are not suitable, Seven Palms offers another day or a full refund. Life jackets and helmets are part of the session, and the school keeps wetsuits for adults and kids.
Seven Palms also sells and services Fliteboards and runs test sessions at MC Beach for buyers. Our Fliteboard guide covers the range itself.
Aquatime at Puente Romano and the marina
Aquatime lists almost all of its activities every day of the year. Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and the money comes back in full; later than that you get a voucher for a new date. If the weather cancels, the refund is full. On request Aquatime picks you up at your accommodation.
One more name turns up in searches for eFoil in Marbella. The eFoil Riders network advertises a 60 minute Fliteboard beginner course here without naming the beach.
Boards for buyers in Puerto Banús and San Pedro
Nobody teaches eFoil out of Puerto Banús. The nearest lessons are about 4 km east on the Golden Mile, and Spanish rules would keep a board out of a port or marina even if a school were based there.
Waydoo Spain runs a buyer demo at the Puerto Banús boatyard, booked by WhatsApp or email. It is neither a lesson nor a rental; the Waydoo eFoil guide explains the boards. At the Real Club Marítimo de Marbella, NaluSur teaches wakefoil behind a boat and wing foiling, no eFoil.
San Pedro Alcántara is where Seven Palms keeps its Fliteboard showroom. A small reservoir lies beside the San Pedro cable park, about 9 km by road from the Marbella Club Hotel, and a school works by the cable ski lake. Check that it still runs before you plan a day around it.
Seven Palms' second beach, in Estepona
Playa del Cristo in Estepona is the other Seven Palms location, about 31 km by road west of the Marbella Club Hotel and about 84 km from Málaga airport. Estepona's beaches are mostly coarse sand.
Seven Palms publishes one price list for both places, so confirm the Estepona price when you book.
A 1.7 hectare lagoon at Sotogrande, mostly for riders who already fly
Blua Blue Watersports works from The Beach at La Reserva Club, Sotogrande, and rides the club's lake. The sports lagoon is man made, an inland lake of about 1.7 hectares (17,000 m²) beside the club's beach, used for kayak, SUP and electric surfboards. It lies in San Roque, in the province of Cádiz, about 8 km by road from Puerto de Sotogrande. E-Surfer calls it “safe with no wind or waves”.
Blua Blue prices by season. Low season runs from late March to May and again from September to 1 November, with pre-booking required; high season is June to August. The premium eFoil lesson, for experienced riders, costs €250 an hour in low season and €390 in high. Rental costs €200 or €340 an hour, and €125 or €195 for 30 minutes.
Only the electric foil scooter lesson comes without the experienced label. Open to teens and adults, it costs €200 an hour in low season and €340 in high. Scooter rental is for experienced riders again, at €160 or €290 an hour and €100 or €170 for 30 minutes.
Fliteboard's dealer locator lists Blua Blue as a dealer and service center, and E-Surfer's eFoil shop sits at Blua Blue, where boards can be test ridden. For Sotogrande the closer airport is Gibraltar, about 20 km by road from La Reserva.
From Málaga city, the nearest school is about 60 km away
Our searches in September and October 2026 found no eFoil school with a base of its own in Málaga city or along the coast toward Nerja. The nearest school with a published price is in Marbella, about 60 km by road.
Boats are the exception. Seven Palms delivers eFoils to yachts anywhere from Málaga to Marbella, at €500 for 4 hours or €900 for 8, plus delivery and an instructor, both quoted separately. A visitor who brings a board of their own can hire a battery and charger from Seven Palms for €120 a day; our eFoil battery guide explains what a pack holds.
In Fuengirola, a shop on the promenade sells one hour eFoil classes through booking sites. Ask the shop directly where the board goes in and who comes out with you. Fuengirola is also where the local train from the airport ends, 26 km away by road.
Spanish law keeps eFoils out of ports and buoyed bathing zones
No plate and no registration for an eFoil in Spain, as we read the law. Royal Decree 1435/2010 of 5 November 2010, article 2 q) v), counts “tablas deslizantes con motor”, motorized gliding boards, among the “artefactos flotantes o de playa”, and article 3.2 exempts these from registration.
Licensing changed on 1 October 2026. From that day, article 10 of Royal Decree 875/2014, as amended by Royal Decree 1188/2025 of 26 December 2025, asks no title for beach craft. They may go no more than 2 nautical miles from the port, marina or beach of departure, by day only, and the user must be 18. Put plainly, and on our reading, no license is needed for an eFoil by day within 2 nautical miles of where you start.
Royal Decree 1043/2003 of 1 August 2003 covers motorized recreational craft able to exceed 10 knots (article 2), and we count an eFoil among them. Its article 3 sets 18 as the minimum age and lets 16 and 17 year olds ride with signed parental consent; ask the school how it applies the two texts to a teenager. Article 6 sets the rules on the water:
- no riding in buoyed bathing zones, and in and out only through the buoyed channels, at no more than three knots;
- where no zone is buoyed, no riding in the 200 m strip along the coast except to leave or reach the beach;
- no riding inside ports, marinas included;
- a distance of 50 m from other craft;
- riding only from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset, in good weather and visibility.
The harbor master, the Capitanía Marítima, can change those zones and times, or ban riding outright.
Royal Decree 876/2014 of 10 October 2014, article 73, closes buoyed bathing zones to any craft under sail or motor. Where a beach is not buoyed, it sets a 200 m strip off beaches and 50 m elsewhere, with a three knot limit. Under Royal Legislative Decree 2/2011, article 307.2 l), riding in a buoyed bathing zone, or above the speed limit in that strip, is a serious infringement.
On this coast that means, as we read it, that marinas are closed to riding, Puerto Banús included. Open sea sessions start from the hotel beaches and pass the summer bathing buoys through a channel, and the school knows where its channel lies.
British riders already know half of this. The UK has no national license or compulsory registration for an eFoil (see our UK eFoil guide), and the board needs no license in Spain either. The difference is that Spain sets national limits on distance, daylight and the coastal strip.
This is our reading of the official texts as published in the BOE, not legal advice.
Marbella's sea runs from 15.0 °C in February to 22.6 °C in August
Two winds name the weather on this coast. The levante, from the east, blows strongest in the Strait of Gibraltar, is most common from May to October and, when strong, raises a heavy chop. Local knowledge in Estepona has it bringing warmer but choppier water, while the poniente, from the west, brings colder and clearer water.
A third wind comes off the land. The hot terral can push colder water onto the beach.
Plenty of days are quieter than any of that. On the harbor stations almost half the readings are calm or light air, and mornings are usually calmer than afternoons, above all in the hot months. Seven Palms writes of “Marbella's calm waters”, yet the beaches face open sea.

In summer the sea runs warmer toward Málaga and Nerja, about 24 to 24.5 °C in August. On land, the 1981 to 2010 normals for Málaga airport give a mean daily maximum of 16.8 °C in January and 30.8 °C in August, with 2,905 hours of sun and 534 mm of rain a year. November and December are the wettest months, July is dry.
Summer is the easy season. Blua Blue publishes dates from late March to 1 November only. From November to April, with the sea at about 15 to 17.5 °C, check that the school runs that week and ask for a wetsuit.
Half an hour for €100, eight hours on a yacht for €900

The airport train stops at Fuengirola
Rail gets you as far as Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, where the local line from Málaga airport ends. Marbella, San Pedro, Estepona and Sotogrande are reached by road or bus along the A-7 and the old N-340, and direct buses link the airport with Marbella and Estepona.

Tarifa, for foil assist
Tarifa sells foil assist, not a bookable eFoil. Surf Center Tarifa offers a Duotone assisted foil at €150 for a private 1 hour course and €180 for a 1 hour rental, list prices read in October 2026. The town is about 100 km by road from the Marbella Club Hotel and about 49 km from La Reserva. What foil assist is, and how it differs from an eFoil, is in our foil assist guide.
