The brand

Awake builds electric watersports boards in Sweden. The company was founded in 2017 in Limhamnin southern Sweden, and few brands in this market have as sharp a profile. Awake refuses to settle on a single product category: the Swedes build jetboards and eFoils, and they have tied the two together into one shared system. That dual role is still the brand’s defining trait.

The Scandinavian roots go deeper than the address. Awake positions itself squarely as a premium brand: clean, minimalist shapes, high-grade materials and a product experience thought through to the last detail, exactly the kind of styling Scandinavian design is known for. At first glance the boards look more like a sports car or a piece of high-end electronics than a classic surfboard, and that is precisely how the manufacturer presents them.

There is a practical side too: Awake is a European manufacturer based in the EU. With sports gear in the five-figure range, warranty handling, service and spare-parts availability matter at least as much as the board itself. For riders in Europe that proximity tends to keep things simple; if you are buying from further afield, ask how warranty cases and delivery are handled for your region. Either way, confirm the details before you order, because conditions change from time to time.

Motorsport has raised the brand’s profile as well: Awake runs a marketing partnership with Carlos Sainz Jr., the Formula 1 driver. An F1 name underscores exactly the message the brand is built on: precision, speed and top-shelf engineering, just on water instead of asphalt. From a buyer’s point of view, a partnership like that is more than window dressing. It shows a visible, actively growing brand at work, and at this price level that is no small thing.

Before we go on, the names deserve a moment. Awake is not “an eFoil” but a manufacturer with two product families: VINGA is the eFoil line, RÄVIK the jetboard line. Models and prices

Awake’s lineup rests on two families joined by a shared battery platform. Let’s take them one at a time.

VINGA: flight above the water

VINGAis Awake’s eFoil family, and in 2026 it consists of a single model: the VINGA Carve (the earlier S, Adventure and Ultimate variants have been retired). As on any eFoil, a hydrofoil wing sits beneath the board: at the right speed it lifts the hull clear of the water, and you fly quietly, almost weightlessly, above the surface. As a category, eFoils typically reach about 30 to 45 km/h (roughly 19 to 28 mph); the exact figures depend on the model and the wing size. The VINGA experience is built around that soft, silent glide: on glassy early-morning water it ranks among the finest things watersports can offer.

Learning on the VINGA follows the proven eFoil progression: you practice lying down first, then kneeling, then standing, and only after that do you really start to fly. Most people feel comfortable on the board after 4 to 5 hours of practice; riders with prior watersports experience are often flying within 20 minutes. When you are starting out, the bigger wing is your friend: it is more stable, which makes holding altitude easier. Smaller wings are faster but belong in advanced hands. RÄVIK: planing on the surface

RÄVIKis Awake’s jetboard family, in three variants: Explore, Adventure and Ultimate. A jetboard never lifts off; it planes on the surface of the water, like wakeboarding without the rope: hard acceleration, tight carving turns and, at the top of this category, speeds around 50 to 60 km/h (about 31 to 37 mph). Where the VINGA delivers the calm of flight, the RÄVIK delivers pure adrenaline, from the same brand and inside the same system.

The learning curve is even friendlier than on an eFoil: with no ride height to balance, most people are planing confidently after a few tries. Here too you set the speed in steps on a waterproof remote and steer with your body weight: the board goes wherever you tip it. Start in the lower power levels and move up only once your turns feel solid.

Flex: the shared battery platform

Which brings us to the heart of the matter: both families are linked by Awake’s battery platform, which goes by the name Flex (current generation: Flex 4). The same battery drives the VINGA eFoils and the RÄVIK jetboards. One battery set, one charging routine, two completely different experiences on the water. Awake is the only major manufacturer with a cross-board platform like this.

In everyday use the battery is the core of the system. On electric watersports boards a charge usually lasts about 1 to 2 hours on the water, depending on how you ride; charging from the wall takes a few hours. Because the battery is swappable, a second pack doubles your daily ride time. The Flex platform takes that logic one step further: your spare battery does not belong to one of your boards, it belongs to all of them.

If you have to choose between variants, the same criteria apply as with any electric watersports board. For beginners, the bigger, more stable configuration is the right starting point: on an eFoil the larger wing not only makes learning easier, it also uses less energy, and that means longer ride time. Advanced riders get more out of a smaller, more agile setup. If you weigh over 80 kg (about 175 lbs), definitely plan on the bigger wing. And whichever variant you pick, look closely at battery capacity and charging time, because in practice those two numbers do more than anything else to decide how much time you spend on the water.

Which Awake is right for you?

The first question is not the model but the experience: do you want to fly above the water (VINGA Carve) or tear across its surface (RÄVIK)? Within the jetboard family, the Explore is the stable entry point, the Adventure the touring-ready middle, and the Ultimate the sporty top end.

Who is Awake for?

The first typical Awake buyer wants both experiences: the calm flight in the morning and the speed in the afternoon. The same applies within a family or a group of friends, where it is rare for everyone to want the same thing: one person loves relaxed gliding, another lives for speed. With one system on a shared platform you satisfy both without buying everything twice. It is no coincidence that this versatility is popular with boat and yacht owners too.

The second profile is the premium buyer: design, material quality and brand experience carry as much weight as the spec sheet. That is exactly who Awake builds for. We deliberately do not list exact prices here: they change too often. But expect the brand to sit in the upper bracket: premium eFoils usually mean an investment of about €10,000 to €15,000, while entry-level models from other manufacturers start at around €5,000 to €7,500.

A third group deserves a mention: rental operators, surf schools and waterfront resorts. Anyone renting out electric boards as a guest experience can cover the mellow option (eFoil) and the adrenaline option (jetboard) with a single brand and a single battery pool. Running the fleet gets noticeably simpler than maintaining two manufacturers’ systems side by side.
