The eFoil map of Latin America, from Cancún to Melipilla
Cancún and Melipilla are the two ends of this map. Between them the schools cluster in Mexico and on the Caribbean islands, Central America has a handful, and south of Panama a whole continent comes down to three addresses: a company on Barú near Cartagena, a second business at Guatapé, about two hours by road from Medellín, and one school on a lagoon an hour outside Santiago. In Argentina, Uruguay and Peru no school publishes an eFoil class.

Which country for which trip
Colombia suits a trip built around Cartagena. The water is warm in every month, the airport is an hour from the boards and the school books in English. Chile is the other kind of day, flat lagoon water in the southern summer, close enough to Santiago to go out and back before dinner, booked in Spanish. Colombia and Chile lie on opposite sides of the equator, yet their good months overlap. December to March is the dry season in Cartagena and the warm season in central Chile, so a trip in the northern winter can take in either one.
For more than one school to choose from, on the Caribbean and the Pacific, Mexico is the country. A Pacific surf trip with one eFoil day in it points to Costa Rica. Lessons inside a city bay, on the island where Lift Foils started, are the Puerto Rico offer, and a private course at Pearl Beach Club on the Dominican coast is what Punta Cana sells.
Colombia: Cartagena and the Caribbean coast
Every eFoil session around Cartagena starts on Barú, a peninsula most people call an island, wedged between the bay of Cartagena, the Canal del Dique and the Caribbean, about 30 km from the city by land. Bocagrande is a city beach with no board to rent, and Tierra Bomba has no base either.
Three hotel bases on Barú
Colombia Efoil sells, services and teaches Fliteboard on Barú from three hotels: Sofitel Barú, Aura Hotel Barú at Km 26 in the Ensenada del Cholón, and Hotel Las Islas, also on the Cholón. Search for it by that name; efoilcolombia.com is a different business, in Guatapé.
Of the three bases, two ride very different water from each other. Aura, which describes itself as “a hotel and beach club located in the Cholon swamp”, sends you out on the Ciénaga de Cholón between the mangroves. The Sofitel base rides the open sea in front of the hotel. The Foil Life podcast calls the bay “totally protected, flat most of the time, ideal for e-foiling”, and The Foiling Magazine describes flat spots sheltered by the mangrove alongside open ocean rides in waves, with a safety boat following you.
Sofitel books eFoil through the concierge without showing a price, and the base there serves hotel guests, residence clients and riders arriving on their own boat. Hotel Las Islas lists eFoil among its experiences, also unpriced.
Prices, and what an hour on Barú includes

| Operator | Session | List price |
|---|---|---|
| Colombia Efoil | Flitescooter, 30 min | COP 320,000 |
| Colombia Efoil | Flitescooter, 1 h | COP 600,000 |
| Colombia Efoil | Fliteboard, 1 h | COP 600,000 |
| Colombia Efoil | Private tour, 4 to 8 h | on a quote |
| Aura Hotel Barú | Flitescooter, 30 min | $80 |
| Aura Hotel Barú | Flitescooter, 60 min | $150 |
A booking takes one to four people for 30 minutes to an hour on the water, and you can add an hour. Instructor, boards, insurance, helmet, impact vest and a “few pictures of you flying” are included; you bring a towel, sunscreen and a swimsuit. Every session opens with a 15 minute safety briefing, and in bad weather the instructor decides whether to reschedule. Aura's activity card adds a bilingual instructor.
Colombia Efoil says riders are “normally foiling within the first 10-15 minutes” and puts a charge at up to 90 minutes. The Flitescooter is Fliteboard's model with removable handlebars and a thumb throttle. On it, the school says, you “fly in minutes”.
Getting from Cartagena airport to Barú
Fly into Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena. Barú is about an hour by road to the Sofitel and about 1 h 20 to Aura, and the transfer is at your own expense. You need not sleep on the peninsula, since Aura and Sofitel both sell day passes; ask Sofitel whether its pass covers eFoil.
Dry months, trade winds and the hurricane season
The sea off Cartagena averages 27.2 °C in February and 29.9 °C in August, and a swimsuit is all you wear on Barú. The calendar is set by the rain. It falls from May to November, heaviest in October, while December to April is the dry season and the tourist high season.
Northeast trade winds blow from January to March. Windfinder's airport station has the strongest mean wind in February (8.88 kt) and March (9.1 kt) and the lightest, about 6 kt, from September to November, and a local tour company says a strong February wind can make the boat trip out to the Rosario Islands rougher. NOAA's Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, busiest from mid August to mid October, though a local guide says cyclones rarely touch Cartagena itself.
Six-day retreats and the Rosario Islands
Colombia Efoil also runs six-day Fliteboard retreats for groups of ten, on your own eFoil with batteries supplied or on theirs, with a coach boat behind, nights at Aura or a private villa plus one in Cartagena's old town, and a boat trip carrying the eFoils to the Rosario Islands. Those 28 or so islands lie just under an hour away by boat, where no eFoil school operates, so an eFoil reaches them only on a guided trip from Barú. The retreat page mentions rides in the Cholón “where you can appreciate turtles, dolphins, ray mantas”.
Guatapé, and the Colombian cities without a school
Inland, Hidrofoil Colombia (efoilcolombia.com) at Guatapé promotes Fliteboard, takes contact by WhatsApp and lists an eFoil scooter hour at COP 320,000; find out what that hour includes. Guatapé stands on the shore of the Peñol-Guatapé reservoir, about two hours by bus from Medellín's Terminal del Norte. Medellín itself, Bogotá, Santa Marta and San Andrés have no eFoil school, rental or dealer.
Chile: Santiago and the lake district
eFoil Chile presents itself as the Chilean distributor of Lift Foils. It keeps a showroom in Las Condes in Santiago and teaches near the capital. No other school or rental advertises an eFoil anywhere in the country, not at Rapel, Pucón or Villarrica, not on the Llanquihue lakes and not along the central coast.
Laguna Esmeralda in Melipilla
Classes run at Laguna Esmeralda in Melipilla, about 75 km from Santiago on the Autopista del Sol (Ruta 78), some 5 km past the town and about an hour's drive. The lagoon is a flooded gravel pit left from building that motorway: 11 hectares of clean groundwater, about 5 m deep on average, with camping, glamping, and kayaks and SUPs for rent. Day use costs CLP 10,000 per person at the online rate, and the facilities are three public toilets and cold outdoor showers.
The lagoon describes its wind as soft in the morning and generally stronger in the afternoon. A first class belongs in the morning, then.

Class prices, and one board shared between riders
Swipe sideways to see all columns
| Class | Length | List price per class |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | 1 h | CLP 89,000 |
| Pair | 1 h 30 | CLP 149,000 |
| Group of 3 or 4 | 2 h | CLP 169,000 |
Split per head, a pair pays about CLP 75,000 each and a group of four about CLP 42,000, but with one board per class each rider spends well under the class length standing on it. A class starts on land with theory, board assembly and a safety briefing, then goes on the water with an instructor, speed and power set by a wireless remote. The school lends a life jacket and a helmet; bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a wetsuit if you own one.
Booking in Spanish
You book through eFoil Chile's own online form, and an instructor then contacts you about payment and details; questions go by WhatsApp or email. The website is in Spanish only and names no teaching language, so ask about English when you write. In Santiago, Prokite's kite lessons advertise “100% FLUENT ENGLISH”, but Prokite runs no eFoil class, rental or test ride.
The southern summer, the lakes and the cold coast
Central Chile is warm from December to March and coldest in July and August. No Chilean eFoil operator publishes a season, and the lagoon's boat rental calls October to March its high season, so plan on the southern summer and put the question of dates to the school. O'Neill Chile suggests a 3/2 or a shorty for the central summer and a 4/3 for year round.
eFoil Chile also offers private classes on “varios lagos de Chile” (several Chilean lakes) by prior arrangement, without naming one. Lago Villarrica, 176 km² with Pucón on its shore, reaches 19 to 22 °C at the surface in summer; you fly to Aeropuerto La Araucanía near Temuco and drive about 1 h 30. Lago Rapel, a reservoir about two hours (144 km) from Santiago, already sees jet skis and wakeboards. Neither lake is served by an eFoil operator; they are names to put to eFoil Chile.
The Humboldt Current keeps the sea cold, about 12 to 15 °C in summer along the centre, and the open coast at Pichilemu, Topocalma and Matanzas is wave and wind water. Small wonder the lessons run on a sheltered inland lagoon.
Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and the islands in brief
Mexico is where the schools are: Cancún, the Bahía de Banderas, Los Cabos, La Ventana and the Bacalar lagoon all have one, and a private hour at E-Foil Cancun lists at MXN 3,500. The Mexico eFoil guide deals with both coasts, with separate pages for Cancún and Los Cabos.
Costa Rica rides on the Pacific: 1 h 30 in Tamarindo for $200 with tax, about two hours in Santa Teresa for $200, and a school at Jacó. Details are on the Costa Rica page.
In Panama, the private island resort of Islas Secas in the Gulf of Chiriquí lists eFoil among its watersports for guests, without a price.
In Puerto Rico, Seakindly's Lift Discovery Lesson in San Juan Bay costs $325 for one person for an hour and stops short of lift-off, which costs $50 more; the Puerto Rico guide has the full account of that lesson. Around Punta Cana, the 1.5 hour private course at Pearl Beach Club lists at $290. Aruba, Bonaire, Grand Cayman and the other islands are on the Caribbean eFoil page.
Argentina, Uruguay and Peru, without a class to book
Argentina has riders, and eFoils are sold there in pesos. La Nación reported on 23 January 2026 that the eFoil arrived “principalmente a través de importadores especializados y escuelas de deportes acuáticos”, mainly through specialist importers and watersports schools, and that people ride it in the Tigre delta and on the Paraná at Posadas. No Argentine school, though, publishes an eFoil class or a price for one.
Uruguay and Peru have no eFoil school or rental. The nearest thing to foiling in Uruguay is Kitesurf Uruguay's kite and wing teaching at Laguna José Ignacio in summer, which needs wind and a different board.
A warm sea in the north, a cold one in Chile
Off Cartagena, Cancún and Punta Cana the monthly mean of the sea never drops below 25 °C. Chile's sea is cold even in January, its warmest month, and that gap, more than any date, dictates what you pack.

| Place | Water temperature, monthly mean | Dry or warm months |
|---|---|---|
| Cartagena | 27.2 °C (Feb) to 29.9 °C (Aug) | December to April, dry |
| Cancún | 25.5 °C (Jan) to 29.3 °C (Aug) | - |
| Punta Cana | 26.1 °C (Feb) to 29.3 °C (Sep) | - |
| Tamarindo | 27.4 °C (Jan) to 29.3 °C (May) | December to March, dry |
| Los Cabos | about 21 to 22 °C in late winter and spring, 29.5 °C in September | - |
| Viña del Mar, Chile | 17.5 °C (Jan) to 13 °C (Aug) | December to March, warm |
NOAA's hurricane season, June 1 to November 30 and busiest from mid August to mid October, covers the Colombian Caribbean, Caribbean Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico alike. In Chile the Humboldt Current holds summer sea water at about 16 to 18 °C in the north and 10 to 13 °C in the south.
Buying an eFoil in Colombia or Chile
Both countries have a shop that also teaches. Colombia Efoil sells and services Fliteboard and SEABOB and quotes prices on request; Fliteboard gives a two year warranty.

| Seller | Board | List price |
|---|---|---|
| Fliteboard (maker) | AIR | from $8,999 |
| Fliteboard (maker) | PRO, ICON | from $10,999 |
| Fliteboard (maker) | Flitescooter | from $11,999 |
| eFoil Chile, Las Condes | LIFT3 F | CLP 12,990,000 |
| eFoil Chile, Las Condes | LIFT4 | CLP 15,990,000 |
| eFoil Chile, Las Condes | SiFly Rider | CLP 8,490,000 |
| Prokite, Vitacura | Waydoo EVO PRO LITE | CLP 7,599,000 |
At Aura's $150 an hour, roughly 60 to 80 hours of lessons cost as much as a new Fliteboard, before shipping. In Chile a LIFT3 F costs about as much as 150 individual classes at Laguna Esmeralda, a SiFly about 95.
In Chile, eFoil Chile sells Lift and SiFly boards and keeps a section for used equipment. Lift quotes 2.5 hours of battery for the LIFT4, with a 1.5 hour fast charge. Prokite in Vitacura sells Waydoo, plus the Foil Drive and Manta foil assists. Chile has no Fliteboard or Awake dealer.
Battery, wing and service are the questions to settle before the brand, and the eFoil buying guide takes them one by one; the eFoil price overview puts these Chilean and Colombian figures next to the rest of the market.

The first message to Barú or Melipilla, and what it should say
Colombia Efoil books by WhatsApp, email or an English contact form and prices in Colombian pesos. eFoil Chile books through a Spanish form, after which an instructor gets in touch about payment. Say how many will ride, whether anyone has stood on an eFoil before and which language you need. For Barú, ask whether your session rides the Cholón or the open sea; for Melipilla, ask for a morning slot. Both schools brief you on their own conditions and the local water rules before the board goes in.
Should the first ride turn into plans for a board of your own, the best eFoils for beginners is the place to start; the eFoil rental page turns to renting in other countries.
