eFoil near Rome starts in Trevignano Romano
Trevignano Romano, a village on the north shore of Lake Bracciano, has both of the eFoil schools within reach of Rome. Way Out Zone teaches on Lift Foils boards. Top Jet Surfing runs its Jetsurf Academy from the International Glamping on Via del Pianoro and puts its students on Fliteboards.
The coast is a different matter. Ostia, Fiumicino, Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo and Terracina have no school and no rental, which leaves the lake as the only place in Lazio with confirmed eFoil operators. Sabaudia matters once you own a board, because the Circeo coast guard wrote the eFoil into its ordinance.
The rest of Italy, from Garda to Sardinia, is in the guide to eFoil in Italy.

Lake, Ostia or Sabaudia for the day
Lake Bracciano is the place for a first ride, and for anyone who rides without a board of their own. It has fresh water, two schools and a ban on combustion engines.
Ostia is Rome's own seaside, 28 km from the center, and it suits a rider who owns a board, all the more once the bathing season ends and the 500 m displacement rule ends with it.
Sabaudia is the longest drive. You get the Circeo national park and a written eFoil rule, but still no school or rental.
Anzio sits between the two, about 60 km from central Rome or roughly 75 minutes by car without traffic, and a booking marketplace, Freedome, lists a private one hour eFoil lesson there from €105 without naming the school, with the instructor alongside on a SUP, for riders 18 or older who can swim.

Way Out Zone: join the association, then ride a Lift board
Way Out Zone is a sports association (a.s.d. WAYOUTZONE BOARDSPORT), and its activities are open to members only, so the paperwork comes first. Joining takes a certificate of good health (the Italian “sana e robusta costituzione” certificate) and copies of your health card and an ID; a minor brings a parent's ID as well. Better to have all of that in hand at home than to hunt for it on the lake shore.
The intro lesson costs €150 and needs no experience. Fifteen minutes go on a briefing on land, the other 45 on the water, with the instructor in your ear by walkie talkie. The boards are Lift Foils, and once you have done the lesson you can rent one for solo sessions. Riders who already fly an electric foil skip the lesson and rent straight away for €110.
You book by WhatsApp. Ask there for the meeting point, the months, any age or weight limit and how long the €110 rental runs.
The association runs a kitesurf, wing foil and SUP school alongside, and it is on the Città metropolitana di Roma Capitale's 2026 list of associations authorized to run school activities on the lake.
Top Jet Surfing sells Fliteboard time by the half hour
Thirty minutes is the shortest slot at the Jetsurf Academy, and Top Jet Surfing itself tells beginners to book at least an hour for the first lesson.

The academy opens on Saturdays and Sundays, by booking only, at the International Glamping, Via del Pianoro 4. Lessons run on Fliteboard and Fliteboard Series 2 boards, and after the first one you may take a board out alone. Bookings go to +39 329 834 2815 (phone and WhatsApp) or to info@topjetsurfing.com.
Away from the lake, the company rents out a Flite Air eFoil with delivery to Italy, France and Switzerland, priced on request. The kit comes with a helmet, a walkie talkie, a life jacket and a wetsuit. The boards themselves are on our Fliteboard page.
Top Jet Surfing has a board shop. Its list prices run from €4,790 for a Waydoo Flyer EVO through €9,350 for a Fliteboard Series 6 ICON and €11,100 for a Fliteboard Ultra Series 3 to €13,249 for an Audi e-tron foil.
The two first lessons come close in price, Way Out Zone's €150 for 45 minutes on the water against €159 for 60 minutes here. Neither list says how much of that water time a beginner spends standing on the board, so ask when you book. Should the hour leave you wanting a board of your own, the eFoil price guide sets out what they cost.
Lake Bracciano, wind and water
Bracciano is a crater lake, 57 km² of fresh water in an old volcano, 9.3 km long and 8.7 km wide, its surface 164 m above sea level and its deepest point 165 m down. Only one lake in Lazio is larger. It lies inside the Parco naturale regionale di Bracciano Martignano, which takes in Trevignano Romano, Bracciano and Anguillara Sabazia.
The wind keeps a daily rhythm. On a settled high pressure day, as the tourist office in Trevignano describes it, a light north wind drops away from about ten in the morning, the lake stays calm until about two, and a west breeze of 8 to 10 knots fills in for the afternoon; take the times as rough. The same office warns that the tramontana, the north wind, can blow over 30 knots in the middle of the lake while the shore at Trevignano looks calm.
Over a year, the weather station at Vigna di Valle on the south shore records an average of 6 knots from the south southeast, with average gusts of 22 knots.

One ticket from Rome to Trevignano, or the car
One ticket covers the whole trip. Trenitalia sells a Regionale train to Anguillara station together with the bus that leaves from the square in front of the station for the center of Trevignano Romano. Anguillara is a stop on the FL3 regional line, which runs from Roma Ostiense to Viterbo and stops at Bracciano and at Vigna di Valle on the lake shore.
Cotral buses run from Rome to Trevignano. By car the village is about 50 km from central Rome, an hour or more. Bracciano town is around 40 km away, Anguillara roughly 35 km.
Lake Bracciano bans combustion engines and allows electric ones
Lazio regional law 2/1987, art. 1, bans combustion engines on Lake Bracciano and Lake Martignano, and regional law 36/1999, art. 4, kept that ban in force when it created the park. Day to day you deal with the lake navigation regulation of the Città metropolitana di Roma Capitale, approved by deliberation 15 of 19 April 2021 for the lakes of Albano, Bracciano, Martignano and Nemi. Its article 2, paragraph 3 repeats the ban for Bracciano and Martignano.
Paragraph 4, letter d of the same article allows electric propulsion. The regulation never mentions a foil; we take an eFoil to be an electric motor unit, and if that holds, these lines apply to you:
- Within 50 m of the shore, outside the bathing zones, motor units may run only if authorized and only at minimum maneuvering speed (art. 2, par. 1).
- You leave and land perpendicular to the shore at minimum speed (art. 2, par. 2).
- Each lakeside comune sets its bathing season, bathing areas and launch corridors by ordinance, with bathing allowed at most 100 m from the shore (art. 9). The corridors reach 50 m out, are 10 to 20 m wide and are marked with orange buoys every 5 m (art. 12).
- School, training and sports activities of sports associations need an authorization from the Città metropolitana (art. 5, par. 1).
There is no minimum age in the regulation and no speed limit in knots for electric units on Bracciano. Lake Albano and Lake Nemi are stricter. Any activity there other than rescue and policing needs the prior nulla osta of the Castelli Romani regional park (art. 5, par. 5), and fines under the regulation run from €50 to €500 (art. 14, par. 2). On the water, the comune's current ordinance settles where the corridors and bathing areas are.
Ostia and Fiumicino, Rome's own coast
Lido di Ostia belongs to Rome itself, as part of Municipio X, and the Roma Lido railway from Porta San Paolo, next to Piramide on Metro B, gets you there in about 40 minutes. At the other end you find kitesurfing and wing foiling, from schools such as Kitesurfing Ostia AKO, which adds windsurfing and SUP; nobody on this coast teaches or rents an eFoil.
With a board of your own, the rules come from the Capitaneria di Porto di Roma Fiumicino, whose district runs over Fiumicino, Municipio X, Pomezia and Ardea. Its bathing ordinance 66/2025 sets the season from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September. Fiumicino confirmed that ordinance for 2026 with its own ordinance 29/2026, which gave a 2026 season of 16 May to 20 September. The ordinance never uses the word foil; what follows is how we apply it to one. In season:
- The first 200 m from the shore (100 m off sheer cliffs) are kept for bathing.
- Launch corridors are 15 to 20 m wide and reach 250 m out; inside them you go perpendicular to the coast at no more than 3 knots.
- Outside the corridors, motor and sail craft may not navigate or anchor within 250 m of the coast.
A second text from the office tightens this. Article 3 of ordinance 52/2024 limits craft between the bathers' limit and 500 m from the coast to 10 knots in displacement mode during the bathing season. It has chapters for kites, wings, surf foils, SUP and flyboards, and none for the eFoil. A board in flight is not in displacement mode, which we take to mean an eFoil stays off the foil inside 500 m in summer.
The Circeo ordinance spells out the eFoil
Sabaudia is the gateway town of the Parco Nazionale del Circeo, about 100 km from central Rome by car; San Felice Circeo is some 105 km. The Sabaudia Link train and bus ends at Piazza Oberdan.
Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo, Terracina and Latina form the maritime district of the coast guard office at Terracina, and its ordinance 34/2024 defines the eFoil in art. 2 and sets conditions for it in art. 22, the only text near Rome to do either:
- In the bathing season you ride between 250 m and one mile from the coast (from 150 m off sheer coast); in other periods, within one mile. Daylight only.
- Sea state up to Douglas 2, waves up to 0.5 m.
- Riders must be 16 or older and have had a demonstration lesson before use.
- The motor must cut out when the controller touches the water or the board tilts beyond 45°.
- A water helmet plus a buoyancy aid or an approved life belt, and a wetsuit in winter.
- Third party liability insurance on each craft.
- In season you cross the bathing strip perpendicularly, motor off or at most 2 knots, at least 10 m from bathers; out of season you launch and land only where the water is free of bathers.
The office's bathing ordinance 30/2025 keeps 200 m from beaches and 100 m from high coast for bathing in season, closes the band from 200 to 250 m (100 to 150 m off cliffs) to navigation during bathing hours and bans motor boards in bathing zones. With no school and no rental on this coast, all of this concerns riders who arrive with a board of their own.
Seasons on the lake and at sea
The two lake schools publish no season. Top Jet Surfing opens at weekends, by booking, and Way Out Zone takes bookings on WhatsApp, so a message settles whether a given weekend works.
At sea the year turns on the bathing season, which runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September on the Rome coast and the Circeo coast; at Anzio it starts on the third Saturday of May. While the bathing strips and corridors are in force, motor craft stay beyond 250 m from the beaches, and on the Rome coast in displacement mode up to 500 m. The ordinances, as we understand them, leave summer the tightest time to ride your own board at sea, and spring and autumn the freest.
On the lake, each comune sets its own bathing season.
Bringing your own eFoil to Rome
Italy's boating code, D.Lgs. 171/2005, lets craft without CE marking, self propelled boards (“tavole autopropulse”) among them, sail within one mile of the coast (art. 27, par. 3, letter c), and leaves their use to the local maritime or inland navigation authority (par. 6). That an eFoil counts as a self propelled board is our interpretation. The code defines a jet ski as a craft under 4 m driven by a water jet pump; a propeller eFoil falls outside that definition as we understand it, while a jet drive board is less clear. The eFoil rules guide compares this with other countries.
Motor craft need third party liability cover to sail in public waters (D.Lgs. 209/2005, art. 123, and D.Lgs. 171/2005, art. 41), and the Circeo ordinance asks for it on each craft. The safety equipment annex (Allegato V to D.M. 146/2008, replaced in 2024 and published in GU n. 222 of 21 September 2024) has riders of sailboards, sailing dinghies, kites, jet skis “e unità similari” wear a CE buoyancy aid of at least 50 N at all times, whatever the distance from the coast. We read an eFoil as one of those similar craft.
Between Ostia and the Circeo, Anzio and Nettuno down to the mouth of the Astura answer to the Anzio coast guard office. Its ordinance 30/2025 of 12 May 2025 keeps 200 m (100 m off sheer cliffs) for bathers from the third Saturday of May, with 15 to 20 m corridors out to 250 m at no more than 3 knots, and outside the corridors no navigating or anchoring within 250 m. Foils go unmentioned, so an eFoil comes under the ordinance only by extension, and the extension is ours.
That is our understanding of the texts, and a lawyer, not this page, is the one to ask before you rely on it. Without a board, the eFoil rental guide covers how hiring works, and the Amalfi Coast and Gulf of Naples page is the next stop south with boards to book.
